Scuba Diving

Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned diver, Maho Bay's Water Sports Center provides scuba diving programs, which have been carefully prepared for the safest possible enjoyment of scuba diving Caribbean waters. The activities desk at Maho Bay Camps can make all the arrangements for your ultimate scuba diving experience in some of the most beautiful waters surrounding St. John or other destinations in the area.

The Maho Bay Water Sports Center, just a few feet from the beautiful, secluded beach at Maho Bay Camps, is a full-service, PADI certified dive shop, with a complete selection of programs for beginners or certified divers. We also rent kayaks, small sailboats, windsurfing gear, beach chairs, floatation mats and sell or rent snorkeling equipment. Experts provide instructions to maximize fun and safety. Fish and coral charts and guides help to enhance the underwater experiences. Check with our Activities Desk for a weekly dive schedule.

One, or two-tank dives, are available. An introductory "resort" dive is provided for rusty or beginning scuba divers and after completion, divers can join other dives or go on to full certification. Night dives are especially enchanting in these beautiful Caribbean waters and require special arrangements. Certified dive masters supervise all scuba diving and Coast Guard licensed captains operate all boats. Snorkelers are welcome to go along for a nominal fee.

Pricing for scuba dives start at $65 for a single dive to $425 for complete certification (see rates below). All scuba dives include all gear or divers may bring their own. If you're just beginning, you can learn to scuba dive among some of the most spectacular coral reefs in the Caribbean. Certified and experienced scuba divers will find ample challenge on any of Maho Bay Water Sports' morning, afternoon dives.

The U.S. Virgin Islands has once again ranked very high in Rodale's Scuba Diving magazine's "Readers Rate" top 100 poll. The top 100 poll ranks the top destinations in the world, according to a variety of water sports related categories. The poll was conducted throughout the year via the magazine's Web site and mail-in cards.

Most of St. John is within the protected area of the US Virgin Islands National Park. Scuba diving Caribbean adventures in these glorious surroundings has a special bonus; Maho Bay's pioneering efforts to preserve the natural environment of St. John has drastically reduced soil erosion and runoff by encouraging growth of protective flora. This has helped to protect precious coral and promote bio-diversity. Our guests enjoy many scuba diving Caribbean treasures that might have otherwise disappeared.
